2 Peas In A Pod Blog: Moving House

Hello everyone, and welcome back to our blog! Today's blog post is by Lydia and it is about when my family and I moved house. We moved on 10th February 2017. That was a very stressful day for all of us! We didn't move far from where we were, we moved about 12 miles, so it really isn't far at all! Anyway, we had lived in our old house for 16 years now. My family moved there when I was 3 weeks old and stayed there until this year.

I have lots of fond memories of the old house as I have lived there most of my life, and it was a shame to move. But, my parents are getting older and the house was just too big, and we couldn't maintain it easily so it was best to move to a smaller place. So, we moved from a 3 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and 3 out-buildings and a big garden to a 3 bedroom bungalow with a garage and a 1/3 of the size garden. It's quite a big change but it's a nice change. We used to live on a busy main road and now we live on a much quieter road with a main road near by. It is weird not being able to hear lorries driving past the house all the time!

As we were very busy on the day I didn't manage to get many pictures, but after I looked at them they weren't very good as there was just so much to do, and we have so much stuff!

Before we actually moved we started packing most of our stuff in boxes and putting them in storage so it would be easier to move on the day. As we were doing the move ourselves we didn't want to make many trips with a van so we gradually took boxes into storage. We found that by doing this it did make the move run much smoother even though it was still a very stressful time for us.

In the process of exchanging contracts etc there were many problems that occurred. We originally wanted to go with local estate agents, but we wanted to have a quick sale of the house, as we wanted to move into a smaller place as soon as we could. So, instead of going with a local estate agent we went with an online estate agent that was supposed to be a quick sale. We, were supposed to have been agreed a sale around 6 weeks after we put the house was put up for sale, so the 1st December 2016. We exchanged on the 4th-7th February 2017, which is over 2 months later than what was supposed to happen!

Anyway, we didn't really mind as we just wanted to move. The company we went with are supposed to only deal with people that have the money straight away and were ready to buy, the person that bought our house doesn't have the money and is on a mortgage. So, overall it wasn't the best move ever!

However, I'm really glad that we have moved. I will miss the old house as I have lots of memories of living there and growing up, but, now we can have a fresh start in a new home, and make more memories here. Where we have moved to is much quieter and the people are much more friendlier.
