Is Reality TV Brainwashing Us?

Is Reality TV Brainwashing Us?

Everybody has watched or watches some sort of reality TV, for example, Love Island, Geordie Shore or First Dates. All of these are a good watch but, are they brainwashing us? Reality TV, is a good, easy watch and can be quite entertaining, but, do they show a different perception than what actually happens in real life?

I'm sure you've all heard of Geordie Shore. Its a reality show where it follows a group of men and women as they experience Newcastle-upon-Tyne's famous party scene. Jade has watched a lot of this and Lydia has watched a couple of episodes, its an entertaining programme, how they go out every night getting drunk and having a good time. Although its entertaining watching them partying every night and not worrying about going to work the next day, it doesn't show the reality of life and the damage it can cause to your body by drinking every night, plus nowadays jobs are needed so in that sense Geordie Shore doesn't show the real world side.

We love a good reality TV show as much as the next person, especially when there's drama, who doesn't love a bit of TV drama, are we right? hahaha! But as much as we love drama, reality TV shows tend to dramatise things, especially break ups. Break ups are bad as they are but do we need reality TV over dramatising it? For example, they show how people get over it easily, when in real life it can actually be a sensitive subject for people, and they may be really struggling. TV Shows just show some woman getting off with a new lad to get over a break up,  when in real life that doesn't really happen.

One of our favourite reality TV shows we religiously watch when it's on is Love Island, its brilliant, a bunch of people going for a nice long holiday to find love, with plenty of drama - hahaha! Especially when someone pairs with their mate in the island's lad! But, do programmes like this, make people want to get into relationships as that's "normal" and "needed". No one should be in any rush for a relationship, but are programmes like this normalising getting into relationships as soon as possible?

What they do portray isn't real life and is probably damaging us, as it's selling a life to us that we won't have and that nobody has as it's just acting. Although there is this side to every reality TV show, they are still a good watch.

Thank You,

Jade and Lydia

L.A.B2 Beauty Sponges Review

L.A.B2 Beauty Sponges Review

Make up is whirlwind of tactics and artistic skills! Many prefer to blend with a brush and others prefer to use sponges. Truthfully we have always been sponge fans just because we feel it adds a smoother coat on top of your skin plus the make up lasts longer throughout the day. So when we received these funky looking sponge applicators through our postbox, we were eager to try them out!

Play It Charcoal and Stop and Smell The Roses Beauty Sponge Applicators

*These items have been gifted and all opinions are our own.

Firstly, we were being introduced to the brand, L.A.B2 (Live and Breath Beauty) to which these applicators are a new generation of sponges and they look really good but they work so well too!

There are 2 beauty sponges in the collection, the "Play it Charcoal" sponge applicator and "Stop and Smell the Roses" sponge applicator. They claim to deliver flawless and streak-free makeup application... so we decided to put it to the test!

Play It Charcoal Beauty Sponge Applicator

Applying the foundation using the 'Play it Charcoal' sponge was very easy, one thing we noticed was how the liquid didn't sink into the sponge straight away like some beauty sponges do. It blended nicely and was streak free.

Animal Cruelty Free Sponges

One thing we love about both sponges are that they are cruelty free which is something we massively believe in!

Packaging of Beauty Sponge Applicator

On the packaging it says for the best results are use the sponges wet. So after using the charcoal one dry we put the 'Stop and Smell the Roses' sponge to the test. We ran them under the tap and squeezed out the excess water and left the sponge damp. This look definitely made it more dewy which personally the both of us prefer matte looks. So overall we do prefer to use them dry however if a dewy finish is what you are after, definitely try them out wet!

The Two Sponges In Detail

Play It Charcoal Beauty Sponge Applicator

The "Play it Charcoal" sponge applicator is a sponge that keeps your make up feeling fresh, as well as being infused with charcoal which helps to prevent bacteria from spreading, which is absolutely perfect especially if you are prone to acne skin.

Stop and Smell The Roses Beauty Sponge Applicator

"Stop and Smell The Roses" is the second sponge applicator by L.A.B2, this sponge can be used either wet or dry to achieve a flawless and glowing finish. This is a three sided sponge, like the charcoal one and this helps to get into little creases, so it's very handy!

Overall these sponges are worth their retail price of £5.99 they are affordable and offer similar results to most high end beauty sponges. If you're looking to try out a new way to apply your make up we recommend you try these sponges! Thank you again to L.A.B2 for sending us these products to try, we really appreciate it!

Thank You,

Jade and Lydia

Catfish And The Bottlemen Concert

Catfish and the Bottlemen

On Tuesday, we went to a Catfish and the Bottlemen concert in Nottingham. Jade has wanted to see these for ages and they finally released a tour, so, I went with her so she had someone to go with, plus I do like most of their music. So, I thought that I would document the concert here in a blog post. (Sorry for bad picture quality)

Twin Atlantic

Like all concerts the main act had a supporting act. Catfish and the Bottlemens support act were a group called Twin Atlantic, I feel like I've heard the name, but I didn't know any of the songs that they did. They were quite good, not the best band but definitely weren't the worst - hahah!

Catfish and the Bottlemen

Then Catfish and the Bottlemen came on, they came out to their latest song called Longshot. I have to say they were very good, even just in their first song, they sang it so well!

Catfish and the Bottlemen

This concert was like the Arctic Monkeys concert, as Catfish and the Bottlemen are a similar band to them. So, the crowd was similar to the crowd at Arctic Monkeys, only smaller, obviously being a smaller venue-haha!

Catfish and the Bottlemen

They sang most of the songs from their first album including Twice, 7 and Cocoon. They nailed them all! They are a great band to see live, they sound just like they do in their album - if not better!

Catfish and the Bottlemen

They also sang the new songs that they have released recently. Although, I didn't know all the songs, I still had a really good night and they are an amazing band too see live as they are just so good!

We had a really good night, apart from having to call the AA out for Jades car, but, whenever we go to a concert something always doesn't quite go to plan-hahah! But, if you ever have the chance to see these live, I seriously recommend you do, they were brilliant!

Thank You,

Lydia

The first idea for a valentines day gifts is a personalised card, like the one that is showing in the top picture, its is the same idea although one jade got me for my birthday, not valentines day. You can do these online, and it's so nice to open a card and it to be completely personalised, these cards are done for every occasion but whatever the occasion, including valentines day, they are so lovely to get, whether its funny or cute pictures its a lovely thought and gift!

Photo frame

Next on our list of valentines gift ideas is a picture of you and your partner in a frame. This sounds simple, but its a really good and cute idea, that doesn't cost the world but shows them how much you care! All you need is a cute picture of the two of you and a nice frame to put it in, it's such a lovely idea to do too. We absolutely love this frame, its brilliant!

Valentines Meal

Our second idea for valentines gifts is a meal out with your other half, its a simple but effective idea for a valentines day date, especially if you pick their favourite restaurant they know that you've thought about it, and would go down a treat!

Photo/Memory Book

The third on our list is a photo/memory book you can create these online or you can make one yourself. This is a really sweet idea to do because it shows that you put a lot of effort in and really thought about it. This is a great idea because you can look back on all the moments and memories in the book plus you can keep adding to it.

Shawn Mendes Perfume

The final gift for this blog post, is a gift that again you can get any time, but is a cute little gift, which is your partners favourite perfume. It's just a little thing you can get them, because who doesn't love their favourite perfume/aftershave-haha!

Lydia's 2018 Favourites

Lydia's 2018 Favourites

It's almost February, January went by so quickly and where did 2018 go? Last year went by in a flash, and what better way to celebrate the year 2018 than with what I (Lydia) have been loving for the past year! From TV shows to beauty products. Without further ado, lets crack on with my favourites of the past year.

Friday Night Dinner

My first favourite of 2018 is a TV show called Friday Night Dinner,  I'm pretty sure everyone has heard of it. It first came out in 2011, and I first watched it in 2017 and loved it! If you haven't heard of it, it is about a jewish family who have a family dinner every Friday night. My favourite episode from all the series' has to be Series 2 episode 6, the episode where they invite Jim (Their neighbour) round for the Friday night dinner - its hilarious! Last year it came onto Netflix. So, I watched it more and loved it even more! Plus all the memes made and everyone talking about it, just made it better!

Elephant Tattoo

The second favourite of last year is my tattoo. I got this in October, and I absolutely love it. I decided to get an elephant because they are my grandmas favourite plus they are one of my favourite animals. I love my tattoo and I'm so glad I got it. The picture is just after I had it done, it's all healed now.

Shawn Mendes 'Signature' Perfume

Another 2018 favourite is this perfume, it is Shawn Mendes' first perfume 'Signature' I think I have talked about this before on here but I love it. I don't know when this first came out and Shawn does have a second one out now which I haven't tried yet, but, this is in my 2018 favourites because I think I've used it everyday the past year. I love it so much, its my go to perfume!

Ted Baker Nail Varnish 'Lilac Pink'

My next thing I've been loving over the past year is this nail varnish, although I got this for christmas in a Ted baker gift set with other beauty products from family friends, it is my new favourite nail colour recently. It is a Lilac Pink colour, and it is so pretty! This nail varnish is so good because it lasts a long time after you've put it on, plus you can get away with only one coat, which is also really good!!

Deadpool 1&2 DVD

My fifth and final favourite of 2018 are these films. I'm sure you've all heard of Deadpool, The first Deadpool came out in 2016 and I watched it for the first time last year before I saw the second one when it came out in cinemas last year. They are both really good films, if you haven't watched them before, I recommend you do! I have to say the soundtrack to these films are pretty good, they did very good song choices for both movies!

These are my top 5 favourites of the past year, 2018 went by so quickly and I can't believe were almost in the second month of 2019! What were some of your favourites from 2018?

Thank You,

Lydia

What Christmas Means To Me

What Christmas Means To Me

We are in the final days of the countdown to Christmas, there are only 5 days to go, how exciting?! I am feeling very festive, especially as its so close to the big day! Christmas is in my opinion the best time of year. All the festivities and its just so perfect, so to celebrate the remaining 5 days, I will tell you about what Christmas means to me!

Christmas is a time for friends and family. For me, it is especially about family, my grandparents live down in London, and I only get to see them a couple of times a year, but because the rest of the family live down that way I don't get to see them that often. Christmas is the main time we all come together to see each other again and have a family gathering at my grandma and grandads. My aunts, my uncle and all my cousins, its so nice to catch up with them properly! We are actually having our family gathering this weekend, which will be really nice!

Another thing that makes Christmas so special is seeing everyone so festive. I absolutely love going round with all the Christmas decorations and seeing everyone getting ready for Christmas. As well as seeing all the families together and the kids ready for Santa, it makes me miss being a kid, but I still love the Christmas season.

One thing I do love about Christmas is that its the only time of year me, my mum, my dad and my brother all gather together and spend quality time, as my brother has moved away from home. Christmas Day is the best, where we all sit down and watch a Christmas film or the Queens Speech tucking into a box of chocolates. I absolutely love doing this, its so cosy and festive, and makes me love Christmas more as I spend quality time with my family!

Christmas is a special time of year for most people, the most special part for me is catching up with the whole family. What does Christmas mean to you?

Thank You,

Lydia

Ways To Make Your Room Festive

Ways To Make Your Room Festive

It's the festive season, everyone has their Christmas decorations up, from Christmas trees to all the lights outside. And what better way to celebrate than to make your room festive. I personally love making my room all festive and ready for Christmas, seeing as Christmas is the most wonderful time of year after all.

Fairy Lights

The first way of making your room festive, is for fairy lights. I actually keep fairy lights up all year as I love them, but around this time of year they make me feel very festive and cosy. Plus they light up my room so well as I have mine all around my room!

Christmas Duvet

Another way I decorate my room to make my room festive, is by putting my Christmas duvet on. I bought this last year, and I love it. It was from Asda, and it's so comfy and cosy plus it's christmassy so its a win all round! As you can see the duvet has cars driving around with trees on the top, I'm not sure why I love it so much but its just so cute!

Blanket

The third thing I do to make my room festive and ready for Christmas is to have blankets. I love a good blanket to put on my bed to add to my room, and for this time of year I use this one because it is so soft and fluffy, plus it makes my room so cosy and being cosy makes me think of Christmas.

Apple and Cinnamon Candle

When I make my room festive, one thing that really helps is candles. I love burning a good candle, and Christmas are always the best! This one is ......... and it smells amazing! Christmas candles are by far the best candles around. This has to be my favourite Christmas candle scent! Whats your favourite Christmas candle scent?

I absolutely love this time of year, and I love making my room all cosy and festive. These are my top ways of making my room festive, what is a way you make your room festive and ready for Christmas?

Thank You,

Lydia

20 November 2018

Status: Updated

Almost everyone is on social media, whether that's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or even all of them. Both Jade and I are on all of the above. As sad as it sounds, I don't go a day without being on one of the forms of social media. Every morning I go on snapchat to keep the 'streaks' with people, it's just habit that I wake up and go on my phone to make sure the 'streaks' stay.

There are so many different social medias out there, and now-a-days people are obsessed with them, me included. Nearly everyone has a smart phone so they can access their Facebook or instagram etc at any time of the day, one of the worst things to see on social media is seeing the skinny and beautiful women that are considered 'perfect'. These women are all stereotypically skinny and beautiful so people who don't look like that tend to try and change them selves so they can also become 'perfect'.

Carrying on with the whole being 'perfect' thing, I think most teenage girls have doubts in their mind, I even do myself. I think "there is no way I will ever be that perfect and pretty", but you have to think that most of them have been edited and aren't true to life and have probably been set up, to make them look 'perfect' online.

Filters for pictures are great, but I keep noticing more and more people using them a lot more. Some people can't take a picture without using filters, all their pictures on there social media accounts have a filter on. I do tend to use filters, as like most people I think they make me better, either they make me look slimmer, make my skin look clearer and all round prettier. I try not to use them, but I feel if I don't I look terrible. It's annoying that filters are around, we use them so regularly that we don't look like ourselves because it so heavily edited, but, unfortunately thats how society expects us to be now.

I personally try to show myself on all my social medias as who I am, other than using snapchat filter! Some people pretend to be people that they aren't at all. I think that you should just be yourself, there's nothing better than being true to everyone and yourself, and no point pretending to be someone you're not, you should be confident with who you are and be proud of it.

I use a lot of social media, which I would love to cut down on especially as most of it is just the 'perfect' girls that I can't not compare myself to. But, because I'm on it so much its hard to cut down! I do love social media though, as it means I can stay in contact with friends and family and see what they get up to! What's you're favourite thing about social media?

Thank You,

Lydia

Autumn Lookbook 2018

It's November, which means we are well into autumn. Autumn is one of our favourite times of the year! It's not too cold, but more layers are beginning to be needed. Plus all the beautiful colours of autumn, the reds, oranges, browns and greens. And what better way to appreciate this time of year than with a Lookbook.

Firstly, we have Jade's outfit. This is a really cute and simple outfit that still stands out and looks great! It consists of a burgundy red pinafore dress with a long sleeve white top underneath, with black tights and finished with black Dr. Martens. The pinafore dress was £30 from New Look, the simple white long sleeve top was £6 from Matalan, with the tights also from Primark, and the, Dr. Martens at £90. The shoes might be a little on the pricey side, but they add an edgy feel to the outfit plus they keep your feet warm. This outfit is perfect for this time of year. It looks great, plus it is super comfortable!

Next, is Lydia's outfit. This outfit is a very simple but effective. The main part of the outfit is the burnt orange trousers, they are super comfy and also look good, the trousers are paired with a plain black t-shirt and black loafers. The trousers are from Primark and cost £15, the black t-shirt was from ASOS for about £10, the loafers were also from Primark costing around £10 too. This outfit is also great for anytime of year but the colour of the trousers really suit this time of year.

Both of these outfits are comfortable, practical and look great! The red and orange in these outfits really do suit this time of year as they are the main colours you see. We love these outfits so much! What's your go-to autumnal outfit?

Thank You,

Jade & Lydia

D.I.Y Halloween Decorations

Hello It's 2 Peas In A Pod Blog Here!

Hello everybody, welcome back to our blog. Today's blog post is by Lydia. We're already in October, I think this year has gone so quickly! So, as its October, that means halloween is approaching. As it's coming up to halloween I thought it would be good to do a D.I.Y halloween decorations blog post. So, without further ado, let's get onto the blog post.

For this, I have 2 handmade Halloween decorations, that are really easy to make and look great. The first one is these glowing eyes. I've seen these before for ages and they looked awesome. I wanted to try them when I first saw them, and what better time to do them than halloween. These are better outside, obviously when dark. But would also look good inside!

They are really simple to make, all you have to do is get the cardboard middle bit from toilet rolls or kitchen rolls, put holes as eyes in them, then snap the glow sicks so they glow and put them into the cardboard toilet roll bit. It probably would've been better if I could find bigger glow sticks, but I just got these ones and they worked okay.

The second D.I.Y Halloween decoration I have is spiders in their cobwebs. This is another really simple one, all you need for this one is cotton balls and plastic spiders. The cobwebs are made from the cotton balls, to make them like cobwebs, what I did was pulled them out a bit so they're thinner and look more like cobwebs, then I added the plastic spiders to complete the look.

These halloween decorations are really easy to make, plus they look great! They are 2 of the simplest decorations to make, perfect for people that don't have a lot of time. they're simple but effective.

Anyway, that's the end of this blog post. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post, and maybe its given you ideas for any Halloween decorations you plan on making for the Halloween season! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

Please Share The Pea Pod Love,

Thank You,

Lydia Xx
